While some chefs start in culinary school before climbing the ladder toward ever-finer restaurants, Chef Scotty does his own thing. The author, social media influencer, dad joke connoisseur, and self-taught chef heads Abe Fromage, a food trailer parked at The Holly. The gourmet sandwich shop serves creative sammies like the Cheesy Joe (think: Manwich sauce, meat, and gooey American cheese) or Goude Butt (Gouda, truffle butter, honey crisp apples, and mint). Unless you’re at a vegan or vegetarian restaurant, plant-based food offerings are often an afterthought at most Cowtown dining destinations. Fifty-Fifty Food Trailer serves an even spread of meat and plant-based sandwiches. With a focus on minimally processed ingredients, Justin Brewer and his team have crafted crave-worthy sammies like the Hot Honey Shroom (fried mushrooms, cole slaw, and hot honey) and Chicken Parm. Funky Calavera serves craft tacos (including birria), breakfast bowls, hefty burritos, and other Mexican delights. Owner Manny started the food trailer with a focus on authentic Mexican recipes and Instagrammable presentations. Manny found a passion for tacos while going to college on the  California side of the U.S.-Mexico border. His passion for authentic Mexican flavors and ingredients has made this spot at 218 Bryan Avenue a local treasure. Follow this craft taqueria on Instagram @funky.calavera

Nearby Big Kat Burgers grills some of the largest burgers in town. I’m a fan of their Peanut Butter Boi, served with provolone, bacon, a big ol’ beef patty, and peanut butter. The peanut butter doesn’t overpower the burger and lends a creamy texture that has to be experienced to be truly appreciated. Other popular options include the Cheesy Kat (basically a large patty melt) and Veggie Cat (served with a large portobello mushroom cap patty). Follow Big Kat Burgers on Instagram @bigkatburgers

Sokah Food Truck brings the rich and diverse flavors of Trinidad and Tobago to Panther City. Whether you’re on the hunt for authentic jerk chicken tacos, Caribbean dishes topped with mango chutney, goat roti, or other Trinidadian dishes, make time to stop by the popular food trailer. Whether you’re looking for a late-night option on West Magnolia Avenue or plant-based vegan options, It’s Food is where it’s at. Burritos, tacos, burgers, and more await at this truck parked behind Fort Liquor. I’m a fan of the fried tofu Islander (caramelized pineapple, grilled onions, lettuce, hoisin sauce, mayo) and the crispy tofu triangles that come with several dipping options.
