Cocktail Guide Spotlight: Lockwood Distilling Fort Worth

While some distilleries aim to inspire awe via multiple-story-high equipment, West Magnolia Avenue’s Lockwood Distilling offers neighborhood charms like comfy seating, top-notch sammies, an enviable selection of Lockwood Distilling spirits, wine, and cocktails.

The Near Southside restaurant/bar is the North Texas distillery chain’s second location with the original locale opening in Richardson in 2019. The unassuming interior effortlessly blends vintage charm with industrial elements. An exposed brick wall behind the bar adds a touch of warmth to the space that is sparingly adorned with pop art featuring cultural icons.

On a recent visit, I ordered the Bourbon Sidecar — a delightful slushy inspired by the classic cognac libation (The Sidecar). Lemon juice, simple syrup, and Lockwood Straight Bourbon made for a sweet, citrusy, and boozy concoction. Every sip started with a delightful sweetness followed by a lingering warmth from the bourbon.

The Dirty South Pie was a lovely, hot mess. The pastrami chili offered a smoky and chile-heavy kick, which was nicely tempered by a dollop of sour cream. Subtle flavors from the pimento cheese enhanced the dish without overpowering it. Topped with sour cream and hot sauce, the Frito pie proved to be absolutely delicious.

The Jive Turkey sandwich didn’t disappoint. The Havarti cheese lent a creamy richness that complemented the bird. The peppery arugula and chutney lent a delightful contrast of sweet and tangy notes. The overall experience was delightful. With an extensive selection of shareable plates, small-batch liquors, and delicious sandwiches and hotdogs, this destination on the Near Southside is a bonafide Fort Worth gem.
