Panther City's New Grinds

After months of reading glowing posts about HustleBlendz Coffee, I stopped by their new location on the Near Southside. The founder and co-founder warmly greeted me in the cozy space boasting work tables and comfy velvety seating. Tweety Angwenyi asked what my coffee preferences were. Not sweet, I told him.

“You should try the Flower Child Latte,” he said, referring to their iced coffee special.

The blend of espresso, cinnamon, and honey was a delight. A cinnamon-kissed frothy head topped the cup of rich iced coffee mellowed by a light cream base. HustleBlendz’ menu features several decadent coffee options, like the Million Dollar White Mocha and Kenyan Dirty Chai.

Townes Drive Thru’s recent opening near my daughter’s school was the upgrade to my morning routine I desperately needed. The soft opening didn’t disappoint. Townes’ hot, iced, and blended javas can be ordered with a few dozen syrup options. The brown sugar syrup wasn't too sweet and left me pining for fall. My daughter loved the strawberry smoothie, and I was impressed by the barbecue sandwich and golden-fried tots.

Nearby Kahwa Coffee Roasters is now open on West Magnolia Avenue, selling handcrafted coffee and tea drinks, fresh-baked pastries, and breakfast sandwiches. The parent company was founded in 2006 by Sarah and Raphael Perrier and has become the largest independent coffee roaster in Florida. The West Magnolia Avenue coffee roaster serves Hawaii-themed java drinks like the Aloha Latte, a delightful blend of macadamia nut and coconut flavors.

Lazy Daisy Coffee has closed, but Fort Worth coffee lovers can now visit Flat Track Coffee at the same location (6475 Camp Bowie Boulevard). Flat Track Coffee serves steaming hot java,  pastries, breakfast tacos, and chai lattes. La La Land Kind Cafe, which mentors foster youths, will open its first Tarrant County location at 5733 Camp Bowie Blvd this fall. Expect unique lattes like La La Land’s French toast and purple rain, along with toasts, pastries, and vegan treats.
