Fall Gallery Night Preview

Twice a year, Fort Worth Art Dealers Association members open their doors, pop open bottles of vino, and hang their most enticing works as part of Spring and Fall Gallery Night. Let the pros guide you through the dozens of Gallery Night stops by hopping on the Art Tooth pArty Bus. The all-inclusive ride (booze included) starts and stops at Hotel Dryce with several gallery and museum destinations in between.

Spider Lily Studio (3418 West 7th Street) is hosting a group show featuring Anna Joy Pham, Red Milk Crone, TC Oliver, and others at the free event featuring Blackland Distillery spirits. “Come out, have some whiskey, and enjoy the good vibes,” writes event contributor @FTWBourbon

As part of Fall Gallery Night, Artspace111 presents Journey of the Lost Lobo, featuring Dennis Blagg. “Journey of the Lost Lobo is a series of paintings created after the deaths of Blagg’s older brother Woodrow Blagg and his best friend Vernon Fisher in April of 2023. The backdrop of many of these paintings depicts the mountain Alsate, known as Pulliams Peak, located in the Big Bend National Park,” reads the gallery’s statement.

The trope of the brooding, tortured artist is often overplayed in popular culture. Hang out with a dozen Fort Worth artists, and you’ll notice that the one quality they all share in common is wit and humor. From August 31 through September 21, Fort Works Art presents “Seriously?!” featuring works by 20 local artists. The opening reception runs from 6 to 9 p.m. on September 7.

“Humor not only makes serious topics more approachable but also fosters a sense of connection and resilience among viewers,” reads a public statement by the gallery.

William Campbell Contemporary will feature works by John Fraser, who died a few months ago at the age of 72 after an impressive career. Fraser’s works span drawing, painting, sculpture, and photography. His early career focused on photography, leading to his first solo exhibition in 1980. Fraser’s solo and group exhibitions spanned the globe, and his fellowships and residencies have included the American Academy in Rome and YADDO.

For the after-party crowd, Hotel Dryce and Fort Works Art are co-hosting BLOCK PARTY. Pamela Moncrief will be overseeing the cocktail bar at Fort Works Art at the event featuring burgers from GUSTOS and TBA entertainment.
