First Sip: ANNEX Rooftop Lounge
Hotel lobby bars just have a different kind of vibe. The standards for bar service are usually exceptionally high, and the crowds are an interesting mix of tourists and locals. Le Méridien Fort Worth Downtown recently opened, and I’ve been waiting to check out their rooftop patio — ANNEX Rooftop Lounge.
The new hotel is situated in the historic Hotel Texas Annex building and features 188 rooms and suites with mid-century modern design, floor-to-ceiling windows, and downtown views. We took the elevator to the 14th floor and hoped the rain would break long enough for us to check out the patio.
The indoor bar area is spacious with ample chairs, couches, and areas to lounge. The bartender, Tiffany, was warm and friendly. I was in the mood for a Negroni, and the tall pour of Hendrick’s Gin, Campari, and vermouth was smooth and slightly spicy — a botanical delight. My guest ordered the espresso martini, which was hand-crafted with Skyy vodka, Caffe Borghetti, and espresso.
Nearby, there is a large outdoor patio that offers an unobstructed view of downtown Fort Worth. Tiffany took us down a long hallway to a lesser-known patio on the northern end of the building. The overcast bluish-gray skies brought out the grittier colors of downtown, and the view to the east captured the bustle of urban life down below.
If you’re looking for a new place to perch with your favorite cocktail, ANNEX Rooftop Lounge should top your list.
