Welcome to the 2024 Cocktail Guide
By Agustin Gonzalez
Down Tulips FTW’s side alley, below The Village At Camp Bowie, and in Hotel Dryce’s hotel lobby are destinations that transport. What sets the bars and distilleries featured in our 2024 cocktail guide are the people. The Panther City Social Cocktail Guide features $100-worth of discounts from these amazing bars.
Star Cafe and Cocktails is the oldest cafe in the Stockyards, but its bar and cocktail menu are brand new. Manager Misty Villarreal and head Chef Victor Villarreal are the married couple revamping the venerable location after Drew Boatman recently purchased it. The Villarreals bring the same attention to detail and customer service that made their previous venture, La Onda, shine.
For craft spirits lovers, you can’t get closer to the source than our three featured distilleries: Blackland Distillery, Acre Distilling, and Lockwood Distilling Co. All won notable awards for their craft spirits. Blackland’s Texpresso Whiskey can be whipped into a delightful java-forward espresso martini while downtown’s Acre Distilling hosts tastings, events, and whiskey blending classes. Lockwood is a neighborhood distillery where the food is as well-crafted as the whisky.
Half of the Cocktail Guide destinations are on the Near Southside where locally-owned bars continue to play a major role in revitalizing that vibrant community. Atlas Bar Fort Worth is the vision of hospitality veteran Dan Bui, who opened the first location in Bishop Arts in 2021. Atlas’ Old Fashioned is the embodiment of sophistication and simplicity.
Jackie O’s swanky-meets-skanky charm and attentive bartenders keep the crowds coming night after night while Maiden’s seasonally changing tasting menu features elegant plant-based courses that you can pair with vegan wine, sake, or zero-proof beverage options.
As you visit these 12 bar destinations, you’ll meet the owner of The Tropic Lady, which recently opened on Race Street. The Bearded Lady was featured in Texas Monthly among other notable publications. The sister concept’s bar has an all-new cocktail menu — with or without booze — and options for California sober folks.
When Tulip’s FTW is closed, its sidebar is probably open. The shotgun-style bar’s staff connect with patrons quickly and remember their usual drinks. PRoPER on Magnolia has everything someone could want from a cozy, contemporary speakeasy. The rotating cocktail menu is inventive while the classic mixed drinks are always perfectly crafted.
Bar Dryce is a short walk from Dickies Arena, and locals and visitors are welcome at the posh lobby bar that’s open seven days a week. Vinyl nights and the weekly silent book club are popular draws at this swanky destination. Basement bars are in short supply in Panther City. One notable subterranean refuge, The Basement Lounge, offers superlative drinks (with or without alcohol) in a thoughtfully decorated space that hosts local artists like Vince Veazey and Ariel Davis.
Panther City Social’s Cocktail Guide features $100-worth of discounted mixed drinks from these amazing bars.
