Seriously Funny Art

The trope of the brooding, tortured artist is often overplayed in popular culture. Hang out with a dozen Fort Worth artists, and you’ll notice that the one quality they all share in common is wit and humor. From August 31 through September 21, Fort Works Art presents “Seriously?!” featuring works by 20 local artists.
“Humor not only makes serious topics more approachable but also fosters a sense of connection and resilience among viewers,” reads a public statement by the gallery. “It allows artists to address sensitive and often taboo subjects in a manner that invites reflection and conversation, breaking down barriers and reducing stigma. The exhibition features a diverse lineup of artists who skillfully use humor and satire to engage and provoke thought. Their works, spanning various media and styles, offer fresh perspectives on themes such as consumerism, environmental issues, and social justice.”
