Panther City's Must-Try Brunches
“I’ll have the salad off your brunch menu,” said no one ever. Brunch — that magical bonus meal that fuels you up for the looming week ahead — satiates our collective love of sugar, butter, and booze. When your Sunday morning hunger pangs call for heapin’ servings of biscuits, fried treats, and mimosas, keep these Panther City restaurants in mind.
With bold brunch cocktails and creative takes on homestyle cooking, South Main’s The Bearded Lady serves up memorable mid-morning meals on Sundays. Before recently taking two out-of-town guests to the Cultural District, we stopped by the Bearded Lady and feasted like drunken Vikings.
There’s nothing basic about Basic Brunchin’ — a tray of two eggs (any style), bacon, fries, and sourdough toast. The Bearded Burrito came packed with scrambled eggs, chorizo, tots, and cheddar cheese (all wrapped in a tortilla and topped with avocado crema).
Outdoor brunchin’ might be a hard sale this time of year, but it’s still worth mentioning Ascension Coffee’s pristine view of the Trinity River. The coffee bar known for crafting flavorful cups of java also serves brunch burgers, buttermilk biscuits, butter french toast, and espresso martinis for folks who understand what breakfasts could and should be.

South Main’s Brix Barbecue opens early on Sunday for the late breakfast crowd. Enjoy an unforgettable breakfast experience with loaded barbecue burritos, beef belly burnt ends, brisket biscuits and gravy, and more.
Sunday morning $3 mimosas and $5.50 bloody Marys at Mash’d might help you forget the previous night’s bar tab. The restaurant’s weekend brunch menu boasts omelets (of the cheeseburger kind), “unholy” french toast sammies, and something called OCB chicken and biscuits that sounds like it could change my life.
Bankhead Brewing’s popular brewery/restaurant serves more than well-crafted brews. The equally craft brunch menu features brisket breakfast tacos, migas, and Captain Crunch french toast made with strawberries, vanilla bean whipped cream, and maple syrup. The Stockyard’s The Biscuit Bar serves Biscuit French Toast (dipped in vanilla custard, fried, and topped with whipped cream) and sausage, egg, and cheese biscuits.
